Snorkel Sites: West
(Kapalua, Napili, Kahana, Kaanapali, Lahaina)
Olowalu
is really about halfway between Kihei and Lahaina. Look for Mile Marker 14 heading West. This abundant reef keeps me, Snorkel Bob, busy sometimes for days on end, checking up on all my little bitty buddies. I can free dive to 30 feet, if I go a few hundred yards out, and maybe see some of my bigger buddies.

Black Rock at the Sheraton in Kaanapali is clear water and sandy bottom out a few hundred yards to 30 feet deep. A few of my turtle pals live out there, too.

Old Airport is what I, Snorkel Bob, call the spot at the north entrance of Kaanapali where the old airport used to was. The shoreline access is on Puukolii Road off Hwy 30, and it´s got facilities and parking, plus a sandy beach and yet another spot for you, my friends, to seek communion with more fish buddies.

Napili Bay is right my, Snorkel Bob's, back yard. It's sandy beach, blue water and home for millions--50 yards from Snorkel Bob's in Napili. Take the Napili exit off Hwy 30, right at the stop sign, 1/2 mile up on the left.

Kapalua Bay is past my, Snorkel Bob's place 1/4 mile on the lower road--it´s the next shoreline access right past the Napili Kai Beach Club.

Honolua Bay Marine Reserve is 1/2 mile past Mile Marker 32 on Hwy 30. A steep cliff means Slaughterhouse (good for body boards). Keep going for Honolua Bay.

South
(Kihei, Wailea, Makena)
Charley Young's
is the rocks at the north end of Kam 1. Kam 1,2 & 3 on South Kihei Rd. just across from La Bahia and Rainbow Mall. Full facilities and another lava rock outcropping between the Kamaole Beach Park, makes for good snorkeling.

Ulua/Mokapu Beach is between Wailea Beach Hotel (formerly Stouffer's) and the Outrigger Resort Hotel (formerly Intercontinental)in Wailea, with easy parking and full facilities. The lava rock outcropping between the 2 beaches is prolific habitat. To reach Polo Beach, turn right down to the beach where Wailea Alanui Rd. in Wailea changes from 4 lanes to 2 lanes.

Makena Beach is beauteous but dangerous. BIG SHORE BREAK CAN HURT YOU (in neck, in shoulder, on head)!  I, Snorkel Bob, do not recommend Makena Beach for snorkeling or bodyboarding.

Ahihi Bay Marine Reserve is south past all the hotels. When the road turns into gravel, go past the first entrance sign of the preserve, to a bay that comes right up to the road itself. Then look for a small 2nd entrance sign. Dozens of other spots are known by your fellow snorkelers, whom you will meet on the great snorkel byway. Always ask about the parking, surf, surge, current, visibility, fish life and safety.

Molokini is a volcanic crater out in the deep blue sea. You get 150' visibility and fish friendlier than urban pedestrians. Eye contact is normal here, in this subaqueous village. Only accessible by boat. Check out my, Snorkel Bob's, boat cruises to Molokini.
